A Friend in Need (2023) was created digitally using Procreate. This piece shows the competitive but caring relationship between original characters Dia (right) and Bianca (left). It’s a common trope in mainstream media for a main character to have a rival, and most of the times the rival acts like a bully towards the protagonist. Where Bianca, who represents the rival character in this illustration, is different is her treatment of Dia, the main character. Instead of being a mean and cruel bully, she’s more the hard-headed type that still has a heart of gold. While she does train harshly with Dia, she’s still able to give her a pat on the back and some advice at the end of the day.
